Thank you for your interest, generosity and support in 2021, it's been sincerely appreciated!
Velorosa's Mission & How You Can Help - We are a race and non-race women’s only cycling team. We exist to encourage, nurture, teach and challenge women to get more involved in the cycling community. Your sponsorship has made this endeavor possible.
Who We Are- We promote cycling along with participating in community outreach in areas that fit our mission and vision.
We have a core board of 5 members who meet monthly to discuss our committee group activities, track our memberships volunteer hours (4 hrs. per year for each member), and manage the 100+ members we have throughout Des Moines and local communicates.
What We Do- Our team activities, in addition to riding socially and racing, include;
Volunteer at local gravel, mountain bike and road races along with supporting other local ultra/running events lik the Booneville Backgrounds, DSM Marathon course support, the Des Moines Women’s 1/2 Marathon bike course support and the Spotted Horse Ultra Gravel events.
Volunteer with CITA once a year at one of their trail workdays. In 2020 we gave all the trail stewards a gift card to one of our sponsors to show our appreciation of all of the hard work they do to keep Denamns, Squirrels Nest, Sycamore (just to name a few) ridable, groomed and maintained for our mountain bike community and riders.
Volunteer yearly for a night with Urban Bicycle Food Ministries, an organization that delivers burritos, water, and necessities to the homeless camps and in need areas every Thursday night via bike.
Founded and partner with Jasper Winery to hold the annual Sip & Swap where members of the cycling, triathlon, and running community can come and bring their gently used goods in exchange for a ticket, 1 ticket per item. They turn in their gently used items and can shop the goods on hand. If they find something they like it’s a ticket. No goods to donate that’s ok we’ll sell you a ticket for $5/ticket or 5 for $20. All cash proceeds in years past have gone to either the Bike Collective or Urban Bicycle Food Ministries. In 2020 we raised over $2,000.00 from cash donations, ticket sales, and the silent raffles merchandise. Any leftover clothing and accessories are donated to the Ragbrai Dream Team. Leftover biking parts are given to We Cycle in Ames and the Des Moines Bike Collective. Our team makes no money from the event we just want to support others and encourage the cycling community to do good for others.
Partnered with Hope for Justice and Break the Cycle to hold the first Break the Cycle Challenge Ride. Our team members participate for the entirety of the day as volunteers, aid station workers and of course as riders tackling the 25, 50 & 100 mile ride challenges.
Let's Keep Going Together!
We sincerely hope you'll continue to partner with us in the upcoming year’s adventures!
